Paul Harrison was born in Tynemouth, Tyne & Wear, England. He studied in Newcastle and Sheffield graduating in Fine Art. He now lives in Nottingham.
Paul works in multi-media producing photography and moving image for exhibition screening and installation. He has photographed and directed music promos, drama and documentary for screen and television and exhibited nationally including the Site Gallery Sheffield Graves Art Gallery Sheffield. FotoGallery Cardiff, Nottingham Castle Gallery Nottingham, Newstead Abbey Nottingham, Derby industrial Museum, Imperial war Museum Cambridge, The Workstation Sheffield, Art in the Arc Nottingham, Lakeside Gallery Nottingham, University of Derby and Djanogly Art Gallery Nottingham.
He has considerable experience working in the corporate sector for companies including; Arts Council England, Creative Partnerships, Metro UK, Design Council, Yamaha, Triumph Motorcycles, and Walkers/Pepsi UK. As a director of the Untitled Photographic Gallery in Sheffield (now the Site Gallery), he selected and curated exhibitions, created and delivered short photography courses and helped in day-to-day gallery and workshop management. In addition, Paul has over 20 years experience lecturing in photography, multi-media, TV and video production at Broadway Cinema Nottingham, De-Montfort University Lincoln, Northern Media School Sheffield, Nottingham Trent University, North-east Media Training and the University of Derby.
Paul has produced work in Europe and North America including electronic video environments for music and art installation. He’s presently working on several multimedia projects based around identity and the environment - “Longsands” - a photographic print work of large-scale abstract images made along the North East coast of England. He continues to work on “Revisited” a portfolio of black and white images focusing on memory and place which was commissioned by Visto Images Paris. He has an upcoming book publication “A Changed Land” - using high-resolution digital photography to explore natural and synthetic environment on the location of what was Gedling Colliery site Nottingham.
Statement
I am interested in the natural environment, memory and mythology. As a filmmaker and photographer perversely, I am more interested in what cannot be seen rather than what can. My images are intended to be an expressive interpretation of time and place.
